Urban Disaster Risk Management / GIS
This division works with municipalities to identify and manage the specific disaster risks prevailing and potentially arising in urban areas. Main tasks the team works are to conduct hazard assessments & risk mapping, develop earthquake damage scenarios, prepare earthquake risk management action plans, demonstrate safe building and retrofitting practices on public structures, raise awareness of disaster risks and conduct training and capacity building.
The Geographical Information Systems team provides mapping and geo-spatial services. Their work is used for hazard mapping, seismic risk assessment and to plan hazard mitigation measures with government and communities. Their skills are also used to assess damage and further risks after a disaster.
