Disaster Resilient Communities in Nepal by 2050

BALIYOGHAR: LOCAL POLITICAL LEADERS INTERACT WITH NRA ON RECONSTRUCTION


Local leaders of ruling and opposition political parties of different VDCs of Dolakha seem to be excited to help government in earthquake resistant building reconstruction. In a discussion, organized by National Reconstruction Authority (NRA) and National Society for Earthquake Technology-Nepal (NSET) jointly in Singati Bazar of Lamidada VDC, Dolakha, seeking the cooperation in distributing grants for reconstruction, the local leaders promised to assist government by their means.

Lokraj Pathak, representative of Nepali Congress opined, “though its being late to help the victims of earthquake in reconstructing their homes, the initiation of NRA is appreciated.” Likewise, Ghanshyam Pathak, president of Laduk committee of CPN UML said, ‘there have been pessimistic rumors that in the name of grant distribution, government is deceiving the locals as in distributing the preliminary reliefs worth Rs. 10 Thousand,’ he added, ‘but we think there is somehow the gap of communication between us which we now will try to fill it up.

Dr. Chandra Shrestha and Mr. Dhruba Sharma, the members of NRA focused on the policies of grant distribution for housing reconstruction. Mr. Surya Narayan Shrestha, Technical Advisor of NRA highlighted on the enrolment and grant distribution procedures.

NSET is providing technical assistance on housing reconstruction through USAID funded program “Baliyo Ghar” in 10 each VDCs of Dolakha, Nuwakot and Dhading districts.
