Integrating Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change Adaptation in the Education Sector
A one day Workshop on Integration  of Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) & Climate Change Adaptation (CCA) was held  on  24th April, 2014 at  Simikot the headquarter of Humla District with an objective to identify and  prioritize the local disasters and its impacts on different VDCs of Humla and  the ways to mitigate the risks. The workshop was participated by a total of 63  personnel representing various government, nongovernment, private, media, and  education sector in Humla district. Disasters and impact of climate change in  national level and local level were widely discussed in the workshop.
 5 - Day training  program on Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change Adaptation
 The  workshop was followed by a 5 day training program on DRR and CCA during 27  April – 1 May 2014.The main objective of the training program was to make the  residents of Humla district aware on various aspects of DRR and CCA. The  training was participated by a total 24 participants of which 6  were female and 18 male representing DEOs of Humla, School teachers, NGOs,  media, commerce and trade, Health sector and others  involved in social works. 
 During the five day training different  aspects of disasters that are more frequent in Nepal such as the flood, landslide,  earthquake, fire, epidemic etc. were discussed and further impacts of climate  change and adaptation to climate change were also discussed. Local disasters  such as severe snowfall, rock toppling, epidemic (rabies), GLOFs etc. were also  included in the discussion. 
 The training included  group work where the participants were divided into groups and different tasks  were assigned to each group such as identifying the potential disasters in their  locality, preparedness to mitigate its impacts, preparing evacuation plans,  simulation exercises and incorporation of DRR & CCA in annual plan of  Schools. 
 
 A program for  Integration of Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) & Climate Change Adaptation  (CCA) in education sector has been started in five districts Humla, Bajura,  Achham, Dhanusha & Saptari under the leadership of DoE with support from  UNICEF and NSET. The program will run till June 2015 with the objective of Enhancing  Children Safety and Community Resilience through Integration of Disaster Risk  Reduction and Climate Change Adaptation in Education Sector. The expected goals  from this program are as follows:
 
| • | Comprehensive School Safety Framework (Guideline and Action Plan) developed, endorsed and implemented by the Government | 
| • | School and District Annual Strategic Implementation Plans integrate CCA and DRR components including budget allocation | 
| • | Increased capacity of children, parents, teachers and education stakeholders/ to build a culture of safety and resilience in schools and communities |
