Earthquake preparedness efforts have been conducted in schools in Kailash Rural Municipality, Bagmati Province. Shangri-La Development Association (SDA), with the technical support from National Society for Earthquake Technology – Nepal (NSET), conducted sessions on earthquake preparedness & risk reduction and evacuation drill events during Feb25-Mar4, 2023.
Orientation sessions in Kalika Basic School, Praja Utthan Basic School, Deutis Basic School, Nandikeshar Basic School, Bawani Secondary School. Also, a session on the same theme conducted in Kailash Rural Municipality. The events were focused to students, teachers, community peoples, security force, rural municipal authorities, and staff & representatives of Kailash Rural Municipality. Also, earthquake evacuation drill was done in each event. NSET instructors facilitated the orientations and drills.
The activities have contributed to make participants aware of earthquake hazard and risks in Nepal and preparedness measures to adopt, and also encouraged to initiate the institutionalization of a system of periodic simulation exercises and drills in Kailash Rural Municipality.
The need is now to continue and institutionalize the efforts for which the local government and schools have shown their interest and commitment.
