Developing the MFR Instructors in Bangladesh through PEER Medical First Responder Instructors’ Workshop (MFRIW) Course

The National Society for Earthquake Technology-Nepal (NSET) in collaboration with the Fire Service and Civil Defense of Bangladesh organized Medical First Responder Instructors’ Workshop (MFRIW), under the Program for Enhancement of Emergency Response (PEER) Stage 4 (2014-2019). The MFRIW was conducted on April 26-30, 2018 at FSCD Training Center, Mirpur-10, Bangladesh.
The MFRIW aims to provide participants with the knowledge and practical skills necessary to become a Medical First Responder (MFR) Course instructor. It is a five-day course of the Program for Enhancement of Emergency Response that was developed by the United States Agency for International Development through Office of U.S. Foreign Disaster Assistance (USAID/OFDA) together in collaboration with the Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Department, Asian Disaster Preparedness Center (ADPC), and National Society for Earthquake Technology-Nepal (NSET).
There are total 21 participants from Fire Service and Civil Defense, composed of 20 Male and one (1) female participants. Among 21 participants, 20 got certificate of completion and one (1) got the certificate of attendance.
PEER MFIRW is a pass/fail course. The workshop is led by a course coordinator, 5 lead instructors and 3 assistant instructors, using the Interactive Lecture Method (ILM) of instruction that is objective based, performance oriented, tested, and highly participatory. The experience of the instructors is enriched by the interaction between the participants.
The recently concluded MFRIW was supported by FSCD, Bangladesh, and NSET through PEER Partial Funding Assistance Program. PEER is funded by the United States Agency for International Development / Office of U.S. Foreign Disaster Assistance (USAID/OFDA).
