Jun 9, 2017

The National Society for Earthquake Technology-Nepal (NSET) in collaboration with the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) of India organized Training for Instructors (TFI), under the Program for Enhancement of Emergency Response (PEER) Stage 4 (2014-2019). The TFI was conducted on May 8-12, 2017 at 03rd Bn NDRF Training Centre in Mundali, Odisha, India.

The TFI course aims to provide the participants with a training methodology and specific personal skills that will assist them in improving their knowledge and skills to develop, present and manage effective training programs. TFI. The TFI course is one of the components of PEER instructors’ development stream for Medical First Responder (MFR) and Collapsed Structure Search and Rescue (CSSR) courses. A team of 9 instructors including 1 course coordinator facilitated the course. All instructors were from different PEER partner institutes in India. For overall monitoring of the course, a monitor was invited from Nepal.

Twenty-one participants from various NDRF battalions who successfully completed the recent PEER MFR and CSSR courses at the same training venue also completed this TFI. India’s NDRF is an elite group created to counter natural and human-induced catastrophes such as earthquakes, tsunamis, floods, nuclear and even biological attacks. Until date, there are 10 battalions deployed in strategic locations in India.

Mr. Jacob Kispotta, Commandant of 03rd Bn NDRF, in his speech during the TFI’s inaugural program on May 8, 2017, boosted the morale of TFI participants as being the most qualified to become PEER instructors in India.

The entry of TFI curricula in Asia was made possible since 1999 with the start of first phase of PEER. The recently concluded TFI was supported by NDRF, Government of India and NSET through PEER Partial Funding Assistance Program. PEER is funded by the United States Agency for International Development / Office of U.S. Foreign Disaster Assistance (USAID/OFDA).
