Nepal has been facing significant damages and losses in the history due to various degrees and types of disasters. The History of Disaster Risk Mitigation is, however, relatively short.
NSET was founded on June 18, 1993, with very explicit cause of ensuring earthquake safety in the hazard-prone urban as well as backward societies of Nepal. In this context, NSET has had
rich experiences and lessons in the field of disaster risk management with major focus on earthquake risk management in the last 30 years. Since the realization of the effects of
earthquake disasters on the population, various programs have been launched with considerable success. People are made aware of the earthquake threat and the importance has been realized
by not only the people but also the local government, local non-Governmental as well as various international organizations. Below were the major initiatives that NSET implemented in the
past.
