Vacancy Announcement for Geologist and Geotechnical Engineer

National Society for Earthquake Technology-Nepal (NSET) invites applications for eligible candidates for the following positions:

1. Position: Geologist

No. of Positions: One
Appointment Type: Full Time for 1 year with possibility of extension
Required Qualification: Masters in Geology
Experience: 1 year in similar position

Main Responsibilities:

» Assist for conducting a training program in the field of hazard assessment, risk mapping, and preventive measures and preparation of urban risk Atlas.
» Assist for conducting orientation, training on earthquake preparedness and earthquake safety.
» Report preparation and presentation on the geological/seismological part of projects as required by NSET
» Assist in writing or contribute to reports and other program reports as required by NSET
» Assist supervisor in developing strategies, plans, programs and materials for earthquake awareness raising and capacity building of the common people and other stakeholders
» Assist in developing strategies, curricula, and materials for training programs targeting various levels of stakeholders
» Implement or assist in the implementation of public awareness programs, training programs or any other form of information/knowledge sharing or capacity building such as workshops, seminars, and conferences

2. Position: Geotechnical Engineer

No. of Positions: One
Appointment Type: Full Time for 1 year with a possibility of extension
Required Qualification: Masters in Geotechnical Engineering 
Experience: 1 year in similar position

Main Responsibilities:

» Geotechnical analysis, design, and supervision for earthquake resistant structure and retrofit of existing structures
» Design program and conduct detail soil investigation including liquefaction analysis
» Provide geotechnical assistance in hazard risk assessment such as earthquake and landslide
» Assess the building from the view of seismic vulnerability risk assessment
» Assist on designing of seismic strengthening of an existing structure (residence, public buildings or any other structure), and their implementation as and when required by NSET projects and programs
» Prepare program proposals/budget for the geotechnical research activities as an when required
» Assist training to engineer, middle-level technicians, mason and the general public for safer building construction, earthquake preparedness
» Conduct earthquake preparedness orientation to the community, students, diplomatic agencies
» Ensure overall coordination and management of the project for the smooth operating cross-check of the work plan and the budget
» Ensure effective support and coordination with other divisions in the area of the geological/geotechnical inputs, procurement and policy advice
» Prepare activities report, training report, monitoring report, investigation report, case studies and project monitoring and evaluation reports » Undertake studies and research on earthquake hazard, risk reduction, and preparedness
» Provide and coordinate technical services relating to Earthquake Engineering to other agencies
