Assisting Municipalities in Building Code Implementation
In the process to encourage the municipalities for effective compliance to and enforcement of the National Building Codes, NSET is conducting various programs in several municipalities of Nepal as a component of the Building Code Implementation in Municipalities of Nepal (BCIPN) program of NSET implemented with funding support from USAID/OFDA..
In the month of June 2013 various programs were conducted in Ghorahi Municipality, of Dang and Butwal and Siddharthanagar Municipality of Rupandehi districts.<
Ghorahi Municipality, Dang
Orientation Program at Ghorahi Municipality, Dang
With an objective to motivate the social mobilizers to spread the message about importance and need of national building code for safer society in the community an Orientation program on "Earthquake Basics and Earthquake Risk Mitigation" was conducted at Ghorahi Municipality on June 13, 2013. The program was jointly organized by NSET and Ghorahi Municipality. There were altogether 21 participants including social mobilizers, engineers and other officials from the municipality.
Mason Training for Earthquake Resistant Building Construction Ghorahi Municipality, Dang
37 masons of Ghorahi Municipality of Dang are now trained on earthquake resistant building construction technology. With an objective to impart the practicing masons with the basic knowledge of earthquake resistant building construction technology and equip them with required skills to construct earthquake resistant buildings, a Five day Mason training program was conducted for the masons of Ghorahi during 10-14 June 2013 at the Ghorahi Municipal Office, Dang.
The training was jointly organized by Ghorahi Municipality and NSET under the program Building Code Implementation in Municipalities of Nepal (BCIPN).
Butwal and Siddharthanagar Municipality, Rupandehi
Orientation Program at Butwal and Siddharthanagar Municipality, Rupandehi
An orientation program on "Earthquake Basics and Earthquake Risk Mitigation" was conducted for both Butwal and Siddharthanagar Municipality on June 23, 2013 at Butwal and Siddharthanagar Municipal offices respectively. The program was jointly organized by NSET and the respective municipalities.
Around 40 participants including social mobilizers, ward leaders, engineers and other officials of the municipality participated in the program in both the municipalities.
Mason Training for Earthquake Resistant Building Construction Butwal Municipality, Rupandehi
17 masons of Butwal Municipality of Rupandehi district are now trained on earthquake resistant building construction technology. With an objective to impart the practicing masons with the basic knowledge of earthquake resistant building construction technology and equip them with required skills to construct earthquake resistant buildings, a Five day Mason training program was conducted for the masons of Butwal during 20-24 June 2013 at the Butwal Municipal Office, Rupandehi.
The training was jointly organized by Butwal Municipality and NSET under the program Building Code Implementation in Municipalities of Nepal (BCIPN).
NSET is implementing the Building Code implementation Program (BCIPN) in 24 municipalities with funding support from the USAID /OFDA. Project duration is August 2012 – July 2015. BCIPN envisions building upon and consolidation of the experiences, achievements and lessons learned from our pilot initiatives of assisting Lalitpur, Banepa, Dharan, and Vyas municipalty in the past decade in building code implementation.
