Two-day training workshop on effective implementation of building code begins at Dharan


A Training Workshop for local government on effective implementation of building code has begun at Dharan, Sunsari district under NSET/Technical Support for Building Code Implementation in Nepal (TSBCIN) program on Sept 7, 2018.

Around 40 people including Mayors, Deputy Mayors, Chief Administrative Officers (CAOs), and Chief Engineers of around 10 municipalities from province no.1, 2 and 3 are participating in the program.

The training workshop is being organized with view to find ways to streamline the building permit process, discuss and share the experiences and ideas for effective implementation of building code in the municipalities, and implementation of Urban Development Strategy, Shelter Development and Building Act among others.

The program is also expected to develop understanding among the local government leaders on development, implementation, monitoring and control mechanism of Building Permit System in the municipalities. Further, it also aims to take initiatives on disaster risk reduction efforts within the municipalities, and discuss to help bring uniformity in building permit process.

Ms. Manju Bhandary Subedi, Deputy Mayor of Dharan Municipality, Mr. Manoj Nakarmi, Senior Division Engineer, Building Code Section of Department of Urban Development and Building Construction (DUDBC), Mr. Surya Bhakta Sanghachhe, Former Director General at DUDBC and Mr. Surya Narayan Shrestha, Executive Director of NSET put forth their initial remarks regarding the training workshop.

Mayors, Deputy Mayors, CAOs and Engineers from Dharan, Janakpurdham and Itahari Sub-Metropolitan Cities, Damak, Bardibas, Dhankuta, Mithila, Phidim, Manthali Municipalities and Kamal Rural Municipality are participating in the training workshop.

The program is being jointly organized by NSET and Dharan Sub-Metropolitan City under directives of Minister for Federal Affairs and General Administration (MOFAGA) and DUDBC.
