Activities for Comprehensive School Safety speeding up


NSET and UNICEF are implementing “Comprehensive School Safety (CSS)” program in close coordination with the Government of Nepal (Ministry of Education/Department of Education), Education Cluster members, National Centre for Educational Development (NCED) and Curriculum Development Centre (CDC), Regional Education Directorates, District Education Offices (DEOs), Resource Centers, Schools, Academic Institutions and Community members including children.

District Level Workshops on CSS program have been organized in the program districts with the objectives of making district stakeholders aware on Enhancing Children Safety and Community Resilience through Integration of CSS framework, about the program activities, explaining their roles and responsibilities and developing common understanding of risks and prioritizing the risks posed by different hazards. Therefore, the workshop contents included sharing about enhancing children safety and community resilience through integration of CSS in education sector, district level hazard identification and prioritization and discussion of key aspects and suggestions for the program.

District level orientation conducted and meetings held with DEOs and local partners/NGOs

District level Orientation on CSS for the Educational stakeholders has been held in Mangalsen, Achham on Sep 6, 2016. Total 47 persons participated in the program including 3 each from NSET and UNICEF. Government representatives were also present in the program including the Chief District Officer (CDO) of Achham, Mr. Poshan Sharma, District Education Officer of Achham, Mr. Hari Datta Joshi as well as representatives from Nepal Police and Nepal Army. Similarly, the participants included Teacher’s Union Representatives, various local I/NGO representatives and media-persons. The workshop was conducted by the District Education Office, Achham and was facilitated by the DEO Hari Datta Joshi. The main objectives of the program are to introduce the CSS program in Achham district for the selection of program VDCs and schools and to define the roles of DEO and line agencies and stakeholders. The major outcome of the workshop was the dissemination of information regarding the CSS program amongst the stakeholders. Similarly, a meeting with local partner Malika Integrated Social Service (MISS), an NGO was also held at UNICEF Office, Sanfebagar, Achham.
District level Orientation on CSS for the Educational stakeholders has been held on Sep 9, 2016 in Baitadi. There were total 47 participants. Four VDCs were selected for the implementation of the program which were Talladehi, Thallagad, Bishalpur and Gurukhola. Also, meeting with local partner (NGO) for Baitadi district held at Bhumeshwor Community Development Organization (BCDO), Siddheshwor VDC-9, Khodape, Baitadi on Sep 8, 2016. Total 22 participants from BCDO were present in the meeting.

Similarly, District level Orientation on CSS for Educational stakeholders held on Sep 26, 2016 in Birgunj, Parsa. There were altogether 52 participants.

Also, coordination meetings with DEOs of Dhading, Parsa, Dhanusha districts and other education stakeholders held during 10-14 August 2016 at Shanti Nepal’s office. Discussion focused on introducing CSS program and selection procedures of local partners. In Saptari district, the workshop was held on September 27, 2016 at Rajbiraj. Program was chaired by Mr. Suresh Prasad Singh, Acting DEO of Saptari. Representatives from Nepal Police, Border Security Camp and DDC were present in the orientation program.
