Emergency Response Training to Hotel Sector Stakeholders

'Promoting Public Private Partnership for Earthquake Risk Management in Nepal (3PERM)'  program being implemented by NSET with the auspices of USAID/OFDA  has been able to sensitize private sector businesses to a preliminary level, and this should be enhanced and reinforced with some sector-specific demonstration of activities.  NSET is planning to conduct specific training courses such as Light Search and Rescue (LSAR), Basic Emergency Medical Response (BEMR),  Damage Assessment Training (DAT) and Non-Structural Mitigation (NSM) for different private sector businesses all as a part of the "Demonstration Training on Earthquake Preparedness for Private Sector Businesses" component of 3PERM Program.  Such training courses will help develop capacities of key business actors from different sectors, help understand the concept and methodologies and also encourage scaling up the efforts.

Four- day training on earthquake preparedness and emergency response for hotel sector stakeholders has kicked off today at NSET premises.   The program is one of the components of  3PERM program activities and first of its kind to have private sector stakeholders participate in a four-day long emergency response and earthquake preparedness training program at NSET premises. A total of 25 participants representing different hotels in Kathmandu would continue the total package of  four trainings at a time during October 14 – 17, 2014.

Speaking at the opening training session today,  Senior Vice President of HAN thanked USAID and NSET for organizing and offering such an important  training package to the private sector and specially starting with hotel industry.  He told that this will give a good message to the hotel sector stakeholders for better preparedness and would give a good impression to the tourist coming to Nepal.

Mr. Surya B Sangachhe, 3PERM Program Manager highlighted on 3PERM program activities and the need of disaster preparedness of private sector.

As per understanding between Hotel Association Nepal (HAN) and NSET,  both institutions have agreed to work together for disaster risk reduction of hotel industry in Nepal.
