HOPE-trained Staff help in Java Quake

HOPE-trained Staff help in Java Quake As reported by Dr. Teddy Boen
More than 6,000 people dead and more than 38,000 people injured in a 6.3 magnitude earthquake that struck central Java in Indonesia on May 27, 2006.

National Society for Earthquake Technology – Nepal (NSET), Program for Enhancement of Emergency Response (PEER) produced the numbers of rescuers in the country to response in such events.

Unfortunately, Yogya emergency personnel had not received HOPE training prior to the earthquake, and the hospitals were in need of much support. Since Yogya is relatively close to Jakarta and all necessary infrastructures were intact, a HOPE-trained group arrived day 1 in the evening and immediately put HOPE prescribed procedures in place in all hospitals in Jogya and Bantul. By day 3, everything was under control and all hospitals functioning.

During the next HOPE course we will show the TIME LINE of the actions used in the Jogya hospitals.

We plan to hold HOPE courses in Jogya soon.
