Radio Sudoor Awaz in earthquake safety campaign

Radio Sudoor Awaz from Amargadhi city of Far Western mountain region of Nepal has started conducting regular awareness raising activities on promoting earthquake safety and enhancing disaster resilience in the areas. The effort has been initiated as a collaborative effort of NSET and the radio under 3PERM, a USAID/OFDA funded program. The program will cover issues of earthquake and in general all types of hazards that are of local concerns. This partnership has made possible production and broadcasting of a knowledge based weekly half-an-hour radio magazine and safety messages 10 times a day from the radio on regular basis that would help commoner people understand prevailing risks and adopting ideas to tackle such threats.

NSET professionals visited radio station and conducted orientation meeting with the program team and staff of the radio. NSET Director Mr. SP Acharya highlighted on NSET approaches and efforts to reduce the risks and enhance resilience in Nepal. Mr. Kalyan Bista, PPP Specialist, NSET shared NSET experience and priority to develop collaborative efforts on promoting earthquake safety in Nepali communities. On behalf of the radio, President Mr. SR Joshi and Station Manager Mr. B. Paneru expressed happiness and also commitment to this new effort to continue more in organized and effective ways. Mr. Khadga Sen Oli from NSET presented on Disaster/Earthquake Risk Management in Nepal.

Also consultative meeting with Mr. Prakash Saud, President of Dadeldhura Chamber of Commerce and Industries (DCCI) and team held to explore ways to join hands in raising public awareness and help private sector make resilient to disasters.
