PEER Nepal Progress Review Meeting held
National Society for Earthquake Technology-Nepal (NSET) organized Program for Enhancement of Emergency Response (PEER) Nepal Progress Review Meeting on April 12, 2017, in Kurintar, Chitwan District, Nepal. PEER is a regional program funded by the United States Agency for International Development/Office of U.S. Foreign Disaster Assistance (USAID/OFDA) and implemented by NSET since 2003.
Dr. Amod Mani Dixit, Executive Director, NSET and Chief of Party, PEER presented the status of PEER Stage 4 (2014-2019), to include forward plans, in Nepal. The presentation was followed by panel discussion among the participants representing from PEER Nepal implementing partners, namely, Nepalese Army, Nepal police, Nepal Armed Police Force, Nepal Red Cross Society, Initiative Outdoor; and USAID/OFDA, funding organization for PEER. PEER program partners also discussed PEER institutionalization in their respective organizations, initiatives beyond PEER support, challenges and their long-term strategies on emergency response capacity building. During the meeting, the need for highly skilled instructors was identified as crucial for the development of qualified emergency responders in Nepal.
