32 Trained Urban Masons added at Nilkantha Dhading


32 trained urban masons have been added at Nilkantha Municipality, Dhading. A seven-day Mason Training (MT) was conducted to enhance their capacity and skill as part of the NSET-BaliyoGhar program on ‘Earthquake Resistant Construction of Building.’ Training has been accomplished on 23rd May, 2016 at Nilkantha.

It was the 4th series of MT at Dhading, jointly organized by Department of Urban Development and Building Construction (DUDBC) Division office Dhading, Nilkantha Municipality and NSET’s Baliyo Ghar program with funding support from USAID.

On the opening session, participants were addressed by Mr. Sushil Gyawali, CEO of National Reconstruction Authority (NRA). He stressed on role and responsibilities of masons for safer reconstruction. He said, “We will only be safe when we construct Baliyo Ghar and the responsibility of safeguarding life of Nepalese people is in your hand now. I hope you will apply the knowledge in your site and spread earthquake safety message in your community.”

On the Certificate distribution session, one of the participants, Mr. Ashok Budhathoki said, “Last year’s earthquake has given us an insight on our traditional construction methodology and now we all are ready to implement the knowledge we gained from the training.”

Chief Guest of this program, Divisional Chief of DUDBC, Dhading Mr. Dilip Bhandari urged every masons to accept the challenges which may come in field of reconstruction. He also said that the training will be truly fruitful only after the knowledge gained from this training is implemented.

President of the program, Executive Officer of Nilkantha Municipality, Mr Dev Raj Chaulagain focused on the fact that lives are taken actually by weak structures not by the earthquake itself of any magnitude. So, it’s up to masons to build safer communities for our future generation.
