Disaster Resilient Communities in Nepal by 2050

Orientation Meetingsheld in partner radios in the east


NSET team conducted Orientation Meetingswith partner radios in the east. NSET is partnering with 28 radios all over the country to raise public awareness on earthquake safety and help promoting community resilience to tackle potential threats of disasters. These sort of orientation meetings are designed to help build better understanding on issues of risk reduction and preparedness approaches so that radio could better serve local communities on resilience!

At the orientation meeting held in Radio Nepalbani FM, Ilam; President Mr. Kedar Thapa, Station Manager Mr. SomSuseli, Board Members and also program and news team members participated and interacted actively on various issues including local priorities. Mainly focus was on promoting earthquake safe building construction, retrofit and fire safety.At the orientation meeting held in Radio Sargam FM, Jhapa; Station Manager Mr. GyanendraNiraula and radio team gathered relevant knowledge, information and techniques of risk reduction and preparedness. Also, NSET team held a short meeting with team of Saptakoshi FM in Itahari, Sunsari. NSET professionals Mr. Khadga Sen Oli and Mr. Kalyan Bista facilitated the interactive sessions.

NSET team also held Consultative Meetings with private sector business communities in the region. The purpose and content of consultation remained toexplore ways to collaborate in enhancing disaster resilience in private sector businesses and also promote private sector contribution on community resilience. Ms. SushilaSapkota,President ofChamber of commerce and Industries (CCI)Ilam, General Secretary and ExCom Members, representatives from Nepalbani FM and NSET professionals discussed the various facets of possible collaboration and have agreed to come up next with some awareness activity. Consultative Meeting has been held also with CCI in Damak, Jhapa where CCI President Mr. Prakash Prasaiand other ExCom members showed their interest to work in raising public awareness on disaster risk reduction and develop local capacity to cope with potential threats. Consultative Meeting held with Mr. Somnath Adhikari, Executive Secretary of Chamber of Industries, Morang (CIM) that agreed to move next with some collaborative efforts on awareness raising and help building private sector businesses resilient.NSET professionals Mr. Kalyan Bista and Mr. Khadga Sen Oli participated in the consultative meetings.
