Prediction
Following the rumors that
the nation would face an earthquake of a massive scale between June
22 and July 10, 2007, an interaction program with the media person
was organized by NSET on June 15, 2007 to confute the rumor. In
the program Mr. Surya Narayan Shrestha, Deputy Executive Director,
NSET in his presentation “Earthquakes and Nepal” quoted
that “there is no scientific basis to forecast quakes within
short- time intervals; however it might be possible to forecast
the long-term, due to study of regional seismcity and the outline
of seismic zones”.
Speaking at the interaction
Mr. Amod Dixit, Executive Director of NSET said that “Earthquakes
can occur any day, any time, it can’t be prevented all we can do
is protect ourselves from them.
The program was actively participated by the representatives
from various media sources.
