| National Society for Earthquake Technology-Nepal
(NSET) in cooperation with Building Research Institute (BRI) and Graduate
Research Institute for Policy Studies (GRIPS) of Japan and Nepal Engineering
College (NEC) organized “Collaborative Research and Development Project
for Disaster Mitigation in Earthquake Prone Areas in Asia, Joint Workshop
on Theme 1 (Seismic Risk Assessment) and Theme 3 (Effective Dissemination
of Safe Building Technologies” on September 27 2007 at Hotel de l'
Annapurna, Kathmandu.
The purpose of Collaborative Research and Development Project for Disaster
Mitigation in Earthquake Prone Areas in Asia is to enhance capability
of research and development for earthquake disaster mitigation in the
project target countries of Indonesia, Nepal, Pakistan, Turkey and Japan.
The objectives of this joint-workshop were;
• To introduce the International Research and Development Project
to Nepalese Stakeholders
• To present the Results and Status of the R&D Project Theme1
(Seismic Risk Assessment Methodologies) and Theme 2 (Effective Dissemination
of Safe Building Technology) and discussion including New Tool for Earthquake
Risk/ Vulnerability Assessment in Cities of Developing Countries using
“Google Earth” and GIS.
The workshop was actively participated by 44 participants representing
Ministry of Physical Planning and Works, Ministry of Local Development,
DUDBC, GRIPS, BRI, KVTDC, JICA, NSET, Municipalities, Professional Societies
and various Academic Institutions.
