Earthquake Safety Walkathon - Kirtipur

As one of the concluding event for the 14th Earthquake Safety Day celebration, Earthquake Safety Walkathon was organized on January 21, 2012 in the morning at the very historic and cultural heritage locality of Kirtipur. The event was jointly organized by Government of Nepal, Kirtipur Municipality and NSET in association with NRCS Kirtipur Sub-Chapter, Kirtipur Volunteer’s Society, UNDP, USAID and SIPRADI.

Honorable State Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation Mr. Dilip Maharjan inaugurated the event. CEO of Kirtipur Municipality, representatives from KVS and NRCS-Kirtipur Sub-Chapter as hosting organizations facilitated locally for all the successful accomplishment of the event. Chief Guest Honorable State Minister handed flag to popular National Marathon Runner Baikuntha Manandhar who then led the walk along inner city areas of Kirtipur. Government Officials, volunteers from KVS and NRCS, Armed Police Force, students, DRR professionals, community people and many from different walks of social lives joined the awareness raising event. Participants joined this noble cause carrying placards of Earthquake Safety messages with the view to sensitize local people and propagating the message of safety promotion.

Route of Walkathon was along Kirtipur Bus Park-Nayabazar- Panga Dokasi-Bujinda-Chiku-Nagaoun River Valley school-NagaounDotbato-Khasibazar-Samal-layaku-Baghbhairab-Chithu-Mangalschool- Kirtipur Buspark.

After completing the walk, organizers shared their quick views on the event and also extended vote of thanks to all participating organizations and individuals. 10 Lucky Winners got awarded with attractive prizes from among the participants selecting randomly!!!
