One of the key activities being continued from the very beginning of the annual Earthquake Safety Day celebration, the National Symposium on “Experiences in Disaster Risk Reduction and Response” was successfully accomplished during January 12-13, 2012 at Hotel Everest, Kathmandu. The program was jointly organized by Government of Nepal, Department of Urban Development and Building Construction (DUDBC), Lalitpur Sub-Metropolitan City, UNDP Nepal, USAID, Nepal Red Cross Society (NRCS), Oxfam and NSET in association with different stakeholders. The objective of the symposium was to share experiences of disaster risk reduction and response between all stakeholders mainly among policymakers, decision makers and professionals. This year’s main focus was on damages caused by September 18 Himalayan Earthquake in eastern Nepal and issues of reconstruction. Honorable Speaker Mr. Subas Chandra Nemwang addressed one special session devoted to interaction with parliamentarians on Disaster Act and legal instruments in regard to DRR.
