Earthquake Shaketable Demonstration 2010

One of the regular but innovative components of Earthquake Safety Exhibition is Shake Table Demonstration which has remained as an inseparable and much vitalizing event of Earthquake Safety Day celebration since its inception. Demonstration of Shaking Table is a Test with 1:10 scale building models with and without earthquake-resistant elements showing how buildings damage during earthquakes. Two small identical models made up of the same construction material are placed on a table. One of the models is built with the normal construction practice and the other one incorporating seismic resistant components. Both the models are vibrated simultaneously on the vibrating table. In due course of the vibration the normal building starts to fail while the building with earthquake resistant components withstands the vibrations without any damage. The general public is explained about the damages and the reason behind them. The explanation also covers the effectiveness of each earthquake resistant components and the way they are incorporated. This edition of demonstration was made at Lalit Mandap, Jawalakhel, Lalitpur on Jan 18, 2010 at 1:30 PM. More than a thousand observers including government & non-government officials, professionals, students, and visitors witnessed the demonstration with keen interest. Sagarmatha Television had made LIVE telecast of the event.
