Earthquake Awareness Program in Dharan Municipality (EAP-Dharan) -2007

The 1988 earthquake, with a magnitude of 6.6 in Richter scale, killed about 138 people and left 2117 people injured with more than 2500 damaged buildings in Dharan. Now the people of Dharan are committed to reduce the risk due to such devastating earthquakes in their city and it's been about a decade, they are actively working towards reducing the risk.

In commemoration of the 1988 Earthquake, every year, Dharan celebrates the Earthquake Memorial Day organizing a week long events.

This year also, Dharan Municipality and National Society for Earthquake Technology Nepal (NSET) with financial support from ACTION AID NEPAL jointly organized various events under the Earthquake Awareness Program (EAP-Dharan 2007) from 19-24 August 2007 (2 - 7 Bhadra 2064 B.S.), to mark the 19th anniversary of August 21 1988 Udaypur Earthquake.
