INTERNATIONAL WORKSHOP

UNCRD held an international workshop on “Keeping schools safe from earthquakes” in Nepal on 1-2 June, 2006 in collaboration with National Society for Earthquake Technology- Nepal (NSET). The workshop correlated with the UN DESA/ UNCRD current activities on school safety, particularly with the project “Reducing vulnerability of school children to earthquakes” as it aimed to provide a platform for exchanging experiences and learning from each project countries while looking at the field level case study in Nepal. Most of the components of the current school safety project of UN DESA/ UNCRD have been exercised in school safety program in Nepal. The community based disaster management practice has been well integrated in that school program in Nepal. At the same time, the workshop provided a platform to exchange the ongoing initiatives of various countries towards school earthquake safety.
