WORKSHOP OBJECTIVES

  • The following contentions summarise the objectives for this workshop:
  • To share knowledge and experiences of school earthquake safety at the global level, including experiences from pre disaster mitigation and post disaster reconstruction.
  • To identify major elements of sustainable school earthquake safety relating to its institutionalization at national level.
  • Define the challenges, critical needs and opportunities in implementing the school earthquake safety
  • To understand the field level experience of community based school earthquake safety program.

WORKSHOP OVERVIEW

The following summarise the overview of the Workshop:

  • Thought provoking presentations by experts on framework and components of school earthquake safety- Disaster education, technology for safe school buildings; and linkage to CBDM and national policy/ programs.
  • Deliberation of case study presentations from various countries where school earthquake safety is being implemented including an assessment of ongoing initiatives.
  • Group discussions to identify the critical needs and opportunities to embark on action for school earthquake safety.
  • Field visit to learn the real case and the results of Community based school safety program
  • Plenary round table discussion to suggest the strategy for institutionalization of school safety program
